BioFase, a Mexican company, has recently launched disposable cutlery and straws that are capable of biodegrading within 240 days.

Provided it is stored in a cool and dry environment, the substitute plastic cutlery can be utilized for up to a year. However, after that period, it begins to decompose completely without leaving any traces of plastic.

Biofase has the advantage of being located in Mexico, a country that has abundant access to avocados. As Mexico is responsible for approximately 50% of the world\’s avocado production, there is an abundance of avocado seeds available that can be effortlessly repurposed.

It took the company more than a year and a half to determine the best technique for manufacturing this biodegradable plastic cutlery.
